The Hamlin Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on November 28, 2006, at 5:34 PM, the reported address at 265 Bankside Drive in the Hidden Creek Mobile Home Park. Hamlin responded with pumpers 242 and 243, Heavy Rescue 248 and Tanker 246 with Morton also dispatched for one pumper as the mutual assistance company. 2C54 was quickly on the scene and reported smoke showing and completed a size-up, advising incoming chief officers of conditions. 2C24 arrived, assumed command and reported a working fire requesting one pumper from Walker to the scene and a fill-in company from Brockport. 2C34 was assigned operations.
Pumper 243 was first due and was directed by command to respond directly to the front of the structure, force a door and enter the structure with the first line. Second due pumper 242 was directed to lay in a five inch supply line and to have its crew pull a second line to the rear of the structure to back-up the initial interior attack team. Heavy Rescue 248 provided lighting, ventilation equipment and tools. Morton established a RIT sector and Walker staged with manpower. The interior fire was quickly knocked down, horizontal ventilation established, extension checked and suppression completed.
The fire heavily damaged a kitchen area in the center of the mobile home with heat and smoke damage throughout the structure. In areas of the kitchen, the ceiling and roof rafters were completely burned away. The fire was caused when the home owner left the structure with a pan on the stove with the heating unit turned on the high position. The Monroe County Arson Investigator confirmed the cause, all burned materials were removed and units picked up shortly before 8:00 PM. Emergency enclosures buttoned-up the structure.
