Third Battalion EMS Weekly Update - 11/19/2007

Busy Week - I would like to THANK everyone who helped support both the Our Bodies event at the Rochester Museum and Science Center  and the Flu Shot Clinic held this weekend.  While these events were sponsored by our Battalion, I am very pleased that Emergency Responders from other areas, as well as the Fire and Police services joined us for these events.

For those of you that were able to attend the Flu Clinic, may everyone stay healthy.  If you were unable to join us, hopefully you have already received your inoculation or will get it soon, because we need you to stay healthy for your family and community.  I would like to THANK Perinton Ambulance for hosting this event and especially Perinton Director of Operations Shawn Bierkortte for being the host all day and making sure that everyone's visit! was plea ck with a needle.

For those that like to plan ahead and some that can spend the next year worrying about getting "poked" a year from now, we are planning to host a weekend session on Sunday November 2, 2008 and a evening session on Election Day, Tuesday November 4, 2008.

Thanksgiving - As we celebrate this holiday, please take the time to reflect upon the special things in your lives that make them important like family and friends, your career(s), wheter volunteering or compensated and all the Special things that are important to you.

Officer Positions - While some agencies have already placed their Officers for 2008 in place, others are in the process of selecting the individuals that will lead their agencies during the next year.  As your consider your own ! position, voting for other members, please keep in mind the commitment and responsibilities that each of these jobs entails.  Please also remember that once in this position, there is a network of Officers in similar positions both in our Battalion and in many other areas that can help develop and act as guidance on issues that they likely have addressed in their agencies in the past.  We as Emergency Service Organizations need to be active in our Battalion, our County, our Region, State and Nationally, so that we can both learn from, as well as provide information from our agencies that will benefit other agencies and the service they provide.

Communications Board position - Monroe County has a board comprising representatives from each Battalion from the Fire and EMS areas,  as well as other areas which work to help develop and guide communications issues within our County.  This b! oard is v he new two-way digital pagers, narrow band radios and other timely issues by working with the organizations which can facilitate change.  For the past several years, we have been fortunate to have Jack Deliso (SEQ/Egypt Fire Chief) act as our representative to this board.  To allow a new person the opportunity to serve in this position, Robert Holmes from Perinton was nominated and approved by the Third Battalion EMS Administrators last month to assume this position effectively January 1, 2008.

Calendar:
