Morton Gas Call

Gas Line Rupture – Morton Fire Department
1947 County Line RoadMay 16, 2007

Just after 5:00 PM, on Wednesday, May 16th, the Morton Fire Department was dispatched to investigate a report of a ruptured gas line at 1947 County Line Road in Kendall Mills. 2C11 was first due on the scene, established Command, and reported gas free-flowing from a house connection. At that site, a home was being demolished, with a large excavator and tractor trailer over the area where the gas was flowing.

Arriving Morton Pumper 215 was directed to set-up at a hydrant north of the scene, Morton Rescue 218 was directed to block the road at the hydrant, and all personnel directed to stage with the apparatus. Command then requested the Kendall Fire Department to respond with one pumper to set-up at a hydrant just west of the scene and for a rescue truck with manpower. The Kendall personnel also staged at that hydrant.

Morton Fire Police secured the scene and fire police from Hamlin, Kendall and Brockport were requested by Command to assist in closing all roads with incoming traffic.

RG&E arrived on the scene and after investigating the leak, and the position of the shut-off valve, requested that the tractor trailer be moved to allow access to the valve. The move occurred without incident and the line was soon shut down. After air quality was checked at the surrounding homes, and found to be acceptable, the incident was declared to be under control and all units were returned to service.
