Shortly after 8:00 AM on March 23, 2007, the Morton Fire Department and the Hamlin Ambulance were dispatched to a reported motor vehicle accident on Roosevelt Highway (NYS 18) between Kendall Mills and the Redman Road. The ECC reported that a car was underneath a garbage truck, that the driver was breathing, but in very bad shape, and that Mercy Flight was notified of the incident. 2C41 arrived on the scene and requested Mercy Flight to respond and for Hamlin and Kendall Fire Police to close down the highway. Rescue 218 arrived on the scene and extrication equipment was deployed as patient care was enacted. Firefighter EMT personnel determined that the drive had deceased and that rescue operations were to terminate. Hamlin Ambulance and Monroe ALS medics confirmed the status of the driver.

After covering the vehicle, emergency personnel began spilled fluids control and stood-by to support the police investigation and further recovery operations. A possible cause of the accident was the bright sunrise that may have temporarily blinded the driver as he rounded a curve in the road where the garbage truck had stopped to make a pick-up.
