Hamlin PT MVA

Two Car MVA – Walker Fire Department

Brick Schoolhouse Road & Walker Lake Ontario Road Intersection

Friday, July 13, 2007

At 9:24 AM on Friday the 13th, 2007, the Walker Fire Department was dispatched to an MVA at the intersection of Brick Schoolhouse Road and NYS Route 260. A Sheriff’s Deputy, arriving on the scene immediately following the alarm, reported a person trapped. Hamlin Rescue 248 was requested to respond at 9:29 AM just prior to Walker’s Squad 2818 and Engine 284 arriving on the scene at 9:30 AM. A second ambulance was requested at 9:33 AM, Hamlin was on the scene at 9:36 AM and Mercy Flight was requested at 9:40 AM.

Car 834, Hamlin’s Code Enforcement Officer and Past Walker Chief, assumed command upon arrival on 2818. 2C14 was assigned communication’s sector, 2C34 was assigned extrication sector and Medic 42 was assigned patient care sector. The driver of one vehicle was not trapped, was cared for and transported by the Hamlin Volunteer Ambulance. The driver of the second car was literally sitting next to a telephone pole, his lower body completely wrapped in car components. Walker and Hamlin teams worked carefully to remove all automobile sections and parts that prevented patient removal while insuring that the individual was not injured further due to their extrication actions. The extrication was completed at 10:25 AM.

The driver was quickly stabilized and moved to Mercy Flight for hospital transport.
