Brockport MVA Person Trapped

Brockport Fire Department

MVA 1901 Drake Road – Person Trapped

January 13, 2007 – 2:53 PM

This incident occurred as the Brockport Fire Department was picking-up from a working fire on East Avenue in the Village. Hamlin’s Pumper 243 was returning from the scene of the fire and responded arriving first due. Spencerport’s Pumper 2914, filling-in at Brockport Station One, was dispatched and Brockport’s Rescue 238 loaded-up and responded from the scene of the fire. Because the units were all manned and ready to roll, or rolling, a quick response was achieved.

A SUV, traveling south on Drake Road had crossed over the roadway, traveled a considerable distance, flew across a creek and struck a bridge foundation, landing back on its wheels. The impact of striking the bridge foundation creased the hood and roof of the vehicle in a line crossing the driver compartment trapping the lone occupant.

2C13 arrived on the scene and confirmed a person trapped. Hamlin’s crew stretched a hand line to the vehicle and both pumper crews prepared for vehicle stabilization and extrication awaiting the arrival of the rescue. The driver door was removed, the roof post cut, and the dashboard was raised, which provided the space necessary to remove the injured occupant. The extrication was achieved in approximately 15 minutes and the patient was treated and transported.
