Churchville Train Derailment

Churchville Firefighters responded for a train derailment on Gough Rd today.  It came in at 12:18 from CSX that there was a derailment with an acetone tank car involved.  4C12 got on location with a chemical smell near the tracks at Gough Rd. and established command well north of the derailment on Gough Rd.  A level 1 haz mat was called and a crew from Churchville lead by 4C-42 recon'ed the area with a thermal imaging camera (to check if a nearby tank car was full), binoculars, Full PPE (with SCBA's) and a 4 gas meter.  The operations crew met with the CSX conductor (on the tracks by Gough Rd) who confirmed the chemical smell was from the numerous rail ties that were damage and emitting creosote.  After determining no chemicals were involved and only 2 empty box cars were involved the level 1 was downgraded to a level 0.  The acetone car was near the engine's and not involved in the derailment and the only other tank car was empty (previously filled with Veg. Oil).  After investigation by the Monroe county Sheriffs the scene was turned over to CSX.  Bergen fire provided a fill in to Churchville.
