4451 Monroe County Line Road Structure Fire
Brockport Fire Department
December 23, 2006 1:43 AM
At approximately 1:30 AM, on December 23, 2006, home owners at 4451 Monroe County Line Road awakened to a loud popping noise in their home. Upon investigation, they discovered a ball of fire coming from the breaker box in the basement and dialed 911. The Brockport Fire Department was dispatched at 1:43 AM and responded with Pumpers 232, 234 & 2325 along with Rescue 238. A deputy sheriff arrived and notified the ECD of a working fire. Chief 2C33 arrived and noted smoke showing on the first and second floors. Assuming command, the Chief confirmed a working fire and requested a pumper and tanker from Clarendon to the scene and a fill-in from Spencerport. Later a pumper from Hamlin was added to the fill-in assignment.
Pumper 234 arrived first and pulled into the driveway of the home. A hand line was stretched through the garage into the house and down into the basement where the fire was quickly knocked down. As this area has no fire hydrants, pumpers 232 and 2325 laid supply lines from their on-board water supplies to pumper 234 and the Clarendon tanker set-up a dump tank to facilitate tanker operations. Clarendon firefighters provided the RIT sector and Rescue 248 was used for ventilation and lighting.
With quick fire suppression, no ventilation operations were required other than the use of fans to clear the structure of smoke and other gases. Overhaul operations involved pulling down some ceiling insulation to ensure that there was no undetected fire extension. Only a small amount of water from the first due pumper was needed, although plenty of water was on hand if the initial operations had not been so successful. All units were in service a couple of hours after the initial alarm.
