A System that Works - Everyday Emergency Responders worldwide provide services that help keep our communities safe. Recently in the Third Battalion, two (2) very Dramatic Emergency Calls occurred, which ended with successful outcomes, based on the efforts of EVERYONE involved in these incidents, starting with the 911 Caller(s), ECD Staff, Civilian Responders, Health Care Professionals, Emergency Personal from EMS, Fire and P! olice, Co curity and Industry and ED Staff. While these two situations are very different in their scope, both demonstrate how when the system we operate in works together, the outcome is the best for the patient.
The first incident occurred on Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the Nazareth College Gym. While refereeing a girls basketball game, the official had a heart attack. Thru the efforts of people at the event, Nazareth Security, Responding Amb, ALS and Fire, as well as First Responders, a patient who suffered this medical emergency was resuscitated at the scene, delivered to the hospital, received necessary treatment and be released to spend the holidays with family.
The second incident involved the collapse of a freight elevator at the Happy Ice facility, on November 29, 2007. This collapse trapped (2) employees who were in the elevator, along with a fork-lift. To allow for the sa! fe remova the resources of five Fire Departments, Two Ambulances agencies, SEQ ALS and Mercy Flight and many other agencies, along with their associated personal were utilized over a three (3) hour period to safely and without injury to any responders remove these two (2) patients to the hospital. The technical expertise and professional attitude of everyone involved helped to insure the successful outcome of this situation
While many of the people involved are very modest to the importance of their involvement in either of these situations, please remember that EVERYONE'S actions and input contributed to the success of these situations. Daily we respond and make a difference in peoples lives, but in these two situations, it was very apparent that the outcome was based on the Cooperation of all parties involved in this process.
Please be Proud of the job you do everyday in making a differ! ence in o T>
