Webster Demolishes Firehouse:
Demolition began two weeks ago on the South Avenue fire station. The job is expected to be completed next week. Back in August, those living in the North East Joint Fire District approved an $8.5 million referendum to replace the South Avenue station and renovate another fire station in Penfield. Full Story. Kitchen Fire:

City Council Blocks Veto:

Rochester Firefighters responded for smoke from the roof this morning at the United Cleaners on Genesee St. Engine 7 was on location with smoke from the roof. Command reported fire in the duct work. Duffy Vetoes Contract:

MVA's in Brighton:
Brighton Firefighters responded for a mva this morning on Rt 590 by Monroe. Apparently the car rolled over into the median. Command reported one adult and two child patients. Photos. Brighton Firefighters responded for a mva on Monroe Ave by Roosevelt. Command reported a two vehicle mva with a person trapped. Photos. Brighton Firefighters responded for a ARC van off the road on Clover St. Command reported a van off the road and unstable. Crews had to stabilize the vehicle before the occupants could be removed. Barn Fire:
Henrietta Firefighters responded for a barn fire on Goodburlet Rd. 6C10 reported a large column of smoke from a distance. 6C91 went on location with a barn fully involved with two houses as exposures. Photos. (Updated December 21 10:00 PM)

Working Fire:
Fairport Fire Department was dispatched to Great Wood Circle for a report of smoke in the structure. While responding, the fire department was notified of a possible fire place problem. 3C-14 and Engine 3413 went on location with a building charged with smoke. Crews entering the basement encountered fire at the ceiling level and at that point 3C-14 declared a working fire. The fire got into a clean out and started the floor joist on fire with extension to the basement and first floor. Bushnell's Basin responded as the FAST team and Egypt responded as the additional engine for the structure fire. East Rochester filled in to Fairport Station 1.(Updated December 21 10:00 PM)

Truck vs Train:
Shortly before noon today 4C32 witnessed a tractor trailer struck by an Amtrack train operating at 79 mph at the South Main St. crossing in Churchville. The tractor trailer was an empty flatbed that became stuck partially on the northbound tracks. He was a contractor for CSX and was picking up a load of railroad ties. The driver was on the flatbed when the train approached. 4C32 had to tell the driver several times to get off the truck as the train was approaching. No injuries were reported on the train or to the truck driver. Chili filled in with 1 engine and Monroe Ambulance also responded. NYSP conducted an investigation. Photos. MVA W/Injuries:
Chili and Churchville Firefighters responded for a MVA yesterday on 490 at Exit 4. They found an Escalade down the embankment with one occupant who needed c-spine precautions and was transported to Highland with non life threatening injuries. Photos. (Updated December 18 8:00 AM)

MVA Truck Over Turned:
Brighton and Laurelton Firefighters responded for a mva this afternoon on Rt 590 by Browncroft. Apparently a garage truck was traveling southbound on Rt 590 when it hit the side of the road causing it to strike a light pole which flipped the truck into the northbound lane. The truck then skidded about 100 feet before being hit by a tractor trailer. There were no injuries but traffic was backed up for miles. Photos. (Updated December 17, 4:00 PM)

Winter Storm:
Monroe County received approximately 10-15 inches of snow over the weekend which kept area Firefighters busy with accidents. Here are some photos from an accident on the RIT campus. Command reported a suv overturned with minor injuries. Here is a brief video of an accident Brighton and Pittsford Firefighters responded to on Rt 490 by Rt 31F. Firefighter Passed Away:
Monroe County Fire Bureau Executive Deputy Coordinator Edward "Red" VerWeire passed away this morning. Red was a Past Fire Chief and Commissioner of Gates. He was also a Past Executive Committee Member of FASNY. Funeral details have yet to be finalized. (Updated December 13, 11:30 AM)

Second Alarm Tones:
Effective Immediately The Monroe County 911 Center will no longer be using the ever familiar second alarm tones on either RFD Channel 1 or 2. The reason being, is that there are no longer any radios, plectrons, station radios or voice pagers that need to be tone alerted as everything that the RFD has that needs alerting now activates via RNet or digital paging. If you have an old plectron radio or Minitor pager that activated with the second alarm tones, it will no longer alert, It may still monitor, depending on it’s ability to pick up the now narrow-banded channel 1. Bill for Ambulance Companies:
U.S. Senator Charles Schumer today proposed that Medicare pay more to ambulance companies for emergency care for senior citizens. He said more money is needed for equipment such as global positioning satellite devices and respiratory equipment that he said would improve speed and care. Full Story, Bill Link, Blog. MVA Person Trapped:
Henrietta Firefighters responded for a mva last night on Jefferson @ Hylan.
Apparently the car was driving on the mall road and went onto the frozen pond, up the embankment, then flipping over where if finally landed on the edge of the embankment. The driver was trapped for 24 minutes and transported to SMH by Henrietta Ambulance. HFD did a great job of stabilizing the car as well as extricating the driver from a precarious position. Photos. Due to the popularity of this exhibit, the Rochester Museum and Science Center would like to recognize the importance of this display to the work that ALL Emergency Service Personnel do and is hosting a FREE exhibit viewing for two (2) nights, Tuesday, December 11, 2007 and Wednesday, December 12, 2007 from 1800 to 2100, both nights. ALL Emergency Service Personal will be provided one (1) free admission to this activity, upon showing agency identification. This admission is provided to all individuals involved in Emergency Services from EMS, Firefighting, Police, Nursing and Dispatcher/Telecommunicators, as well as any other associated agencies.

Webster responded to the White House lodge in Webster Park yesterday evening for a report of two people down, possible due to fumes. Command declared an MCI with 12 persons transported to RGH. Union Hill, West Webster, Penfield, NEQ, Monroe and Rural Metro responded. Penfield filled & Lincoln filled in to WEBF. The cause is under investigation

Elevator Accident:
Fairport Firefighters responded for an Elevator that fell 10 feet, this morning, trapping two workers under a fork lift at the Happy Ice on Turk Hill Rd. Command confirmed two workers trapped in an elevator shaft with a fort lift. The first victim was extricated in about an hour while it took just over three hours to free the second victim. Egypt, Penfield, Bushnell's Basin and Pittsford all sent Rescue's to the scene. Mercy Flight transported the second worker to the hospital. Photos. (Updated November 29, 12:15 PM)

Search:
Last night the Chili F.D. was called out to search an area in Chili Center to look for a missing 13 y/o whom was autistic. He left his residence in the late afternoon. Chili manned all fire stations and deployed 13 pieces of apparatus utilizing their box book system, and augmented the search with Thermal Imaging Cameras. A request was also submitted for the NYSP helicopter as ambient temperatures were 31 and wind at 26mph. After the media alerted the public, tips helped searchers find the boy in about an hour at 2215, several miles from the residence and returned to his family. (Updated November 28, 8:00 AM)

Scrutiny of Rental Properties:
Investigators have not determined what caused a fire that killed two college students in their rental home just over a week ago. Aircraft Incident:
Brockport firefighters responded yesterday for a small aircraft with an electrical problem that was attempting to land at Legdedale Airport. During the response, it was requested that a crash truck respond from the Rochester Airport. Rescue 4 went enroute and was quickly turned back as the aircraft landed without incident. MVA W/Injuries:
Rush Firefighters responded for a mva last night on Rt 390. A 1930 Ford which was NB in the Passing Lane of I-390 was struck from behind by a semi-tractor trailer.
