Barnard Firefighters responded the other day to Bennington Drive for reported smoke coming from the structure.
2C-22 was first on scene with heavy smoke from the roof of an abandoned
boarded up structure. E-223 performed initial attack, E-253 assisted with
establishment of a 5 inch water supply and initial horizontal ventilation by
removing boards from the windows. L-221 was assigned vertical and horizontal
ventilation, R-228 was assigned primary and secondary search. Automatic
mutual assistance to the scene on dispatch was one Engine (E-253) from
Greece Ridge, and one Rescue (R-2038) from Lakeshore as the RIT Team. North
Greece Engine 274 was dispatched initially to fill in but was brought into
the scene for manpower. Engine 10 from RFD filled in. Fire was under control
about 45 minutes into the incident. The fire is under investigation by MC

rollover and one person trapped. The vehicle was on its roof on a icy area
next to a creek. HFD stabilized the vehicle to prevent it from sliding into
the water and removed the driver's door to extricate the patient. Injuries

New Radio Procedure:
Apparently there is a new RFD Radio procedure that went into effect today at 12:00pm. All RFD dispatches will be on channel 1, while all fireground traffic will be on channel 2. If there is a restricted alarm, the fire will be on channel 2 and everything else will move to channel 1. All Airport Alerts will now use channel 4 as their work channel. Command declared a MCI for at least 20 patients, and there were four people trapped. In the early morning hours of Monday, February 4, firefighters from Livingston, Monroe and Ontario Counties responded to a house fire on East Main St. in the Village of Lima. The fire, which began in the basement, rapidly spread through the two-story balloon frame home. The family dog is credited with alerting the occupants to the fire, allowing them to escape safely. Technical Rescue:
At the height of the wind storm yesterday, Spencerport responded at 0947 for the man trapped in a hole at a trench site that had caved in. Upon arrival two minutes later, Firefighters found a male trapped waist deep in the mud and dirt. It took about 20 minutes to extricate him from the hole and stabilize his lower extremity injuries. Keystone Club Police Pipes and Drums is coordinating the funeral for the Dekalb County GA Officer killed in the line of duty last week, he graduated from Gates High School. There is going to be a Motorcade from the airport with his casket coming west down Buffalo Rd. from Mt. Read today sometime between 5:15pm and 5:45pm. We will be distributing fliers today to the Buffalo Rd. homes/Businesses asking them to show support by putting up flags or standing on the curb Thursday. Fire Chief Accident:
Hamlin Chief 2C-14 was responding to a report of a structure fire when his vehicle was clipped in the rear passenger side by a driver who ran a stop sign. The force of the collision caused the chiefs vehicle to overturn. One occupant from the chiefs vehicle was taken to Lakeside Hospital as a precaution, 2C-14 and the driver of the other vehicle were sign-off's. 2C-14 and the Hamlin Fire Department would like to thank all the officers and members of the Hilton Fire Department, 2C-18, 2C31 and the Monroe County 911 Dispatchers for their prompt assistance. Ridge Culver and Laurelton responded to a single vehicle MVA on 590 N, between Norton St and Rt 104 early yesterday morning. Monroe Ambulance Sues The City of Rochester:
Monroe Ambulance has sued the city of Rochester claiming irregularities and illegalities in City Council’s decision to award the city’s ambulance contract to Rural/Metro.
The lawsuit, filed in state Supreme Court, has been expected since council in November reversed Mayor Robert Duffy’s recommendation to contract with Monroe.

Rochester Firefighters responded for a fire alarm this afternoon on Crittenden Blvd at the Goler House High Rise. Quint 3 went on location with nothing showing but further reported smoke on the eight floor. Command reported smoke showing from the eight floor and requested a second alarm with the high rise team. Wind Storm:
All Fire Dept's in and around Monroe County responded to numerous storm related calls today. A violent storm whipped through Monroe County early today, downing trees, scattering debris across roadways and yards, causing widespread power outages to about 45,000 homes and businesses throughout the region. Working Fire:
Brockport Firefighters responded for a fire this afternoon on High St. 2C13 was on location with a working fire and one Firefighter was injured. (Updated January 7, 7:30 PM)
Ambulance MVA:
York EMS and Caledonia ALS were dispatched for an MI in York's area Thursday January 3. Upon transporting the patient red to United Memorial in Batavia, York's ambulance was broad-sided by a vehicle traveling at a high speed that ran a stop sign on Rt. 20 in the Town of Pavilion. Consequently, it sent the ambulance into at least 2 full rollovers, ending in a ditch across the road.Two of the crew members attending the patient have suffered serious injuries and one suffered minor injuries while the patient also suffered injuries. The Egypt Fire Dept received $34,200 for Operatons and Safety in the latest round of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant. (Updated January 6, 2:00 PM)
Volunteer Tax Credit:
NYS Department of Taxation and Finance has issued Form IT-245 in order to claim a $200 (or $400) New York State 2007 income tax credit for service with a VAC or VFD. Instructions are included on the form which is attached to this email. Chapter 532 of the Laws of 2007 makes it possible for all active volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers to qualify for the personal income tax credit in calendar year 2007, even if such volunteer also received a real property tax exemption for his or her volunteer service. Back in the day at National, there was a great guy named Jim Lynch who was Car 2 for George Heisel. Well he passed away last night at his home in Colorado from a better than year long battle with cancer. He started the Suki Regoni Golf Tournament and was a retired Lt. General from the US Army.
