Kendall Road – Structure

In the early afternoon on September 25th, a storm passed through the Kendall and Morton area knocking down trees and several power lines. The Morton Fire Department was dispatched first for power lines down just south of their fire station. This incident shut down power in the area. A few minutes later the Kendall Fire Department was dispatched to home with tree limbs down on a power line and smoke filling the structure.

Morton’s Rescue 218 took the first call to secure the scene of the wires down on the County Line Road. Kendall responded to the second call with Rescue Engine 34 and command confirmed smoke in the structure. Also dispatched on the initial alarm was Holley with a quint for manpower, Morton with an engine for manpower and a TIC and Hamlin for a RIT team. All units were quickly on the scene, as was National Grid, already working in the area.
A thorough search for the source of the smoke condition was undertaken. It was discovered that the wiring for an external light fixture, at the garage grade door, was smoldering in the partition. The partition was opened up and the area wet down using an extinguisher. Had the home owner not been home, the wiring probably would have ignited surrounding materials and a more serious fire would have resulted.

All units returned to service within the hour of the incident.
